Greetings, thanksgiving and pictures!
Dear brothers and sisters:
Happy Chinese New Year to you and your
family! What a wonderful celebration we had on Sunday. It was
particularly special that people from the local community also joined us
in our display of Chinese arts and crafts. Thanks to Teresa Lai,
Sophia Chen, all the school teachers, parents, and children for the
vibrant and joyful cultural presentation! Retaining the Chinese culture
and tradition are important for our families and for our mission. (See

Thanks so much to Lucy, Maria Shao, Alan Hsia and our remarkable choir and Watermark worship teams. Thanks to Angie, Tien-Chia and all the liturgical groups, what a wonderful collaboration with the Cantonese team to have a trilingual Mass that integrates the New Year and Ancestry Remembrance tradition gracefully into the Liturgy. The Reception and dinner banquets were such a fun celebration! 120 people came to the banquet this year. What a great way to spend the New Year's eve together as a family! Thanks to James and Margarita to help us to create a rejoicing family spirit until the end. During the day, the leadership team and the Planning Task Force presented an update to our Bishop McGrath. He was very encouraging with all the progress we have made moving forward to become a Mission. He confirmed his presence with us in July and will keep us in his prayers. The two important things he asked us to keep in mind are the evangelization to the Chinese people in the Santa Clara county, and to continue engaging the young people. To that goal, we have a special event this Saturday with Grace Huang, from Taiwan, who brought 80 people to Catholic faith in the last two years. Finally, I want to thank Simon for his leadership of the Chinese New Year and Louis for the Christmas celebrations. They and their families have worked hard and made possible these activities that bring us together as a family. The strong participation of CM for Christmas and Chinese school for the Chinese New Year shows the importance of these ministries to our community.

Half Moon Bay social !
We're heading toward the beach! This is a social gathering and not sponsored by San Jose Chinese Catholic Community.
Location: Half-moon Bay Sate Beach
The beach is located a half-mile west of Highway 1 on Kelly Avenue in Half Moon Bay. There are three parking and beach access points. We will meet at Venice Beach, at the end of Venice Boulevard off Highway 1. Please check map, direction and weather before you leave.
Date: 7/30 Saturday from 2-6 pm or later
Activities:
I’ll ask older kids to organize a few friendly games but the majority of time will be for any beach activities you prefer (swimming, surfing, hiking, building sand castle, playing balls or just hang out and watch sunset together).

Fr. Francis Wang passed away today at 10:30am
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, With deepest regret and sadness, this is to inform you that our beloved priest Fr. Francis Wang S.J. passed away at 10:30am today 4/23. Fr. Francis Wang served and helped SJCCC greatly in the past. His love and compassion for our community will not be forgotten. We shall update you after the Jesuit Center has determined the time and place of the funeral mass. Let us pray for the soul of Fr. Francis Wang. In Christ, SJCCC Chair Board PS. 最近有時間的時候，我會聽西洋藝術史的錄音帶，裡面介紹的一些畫或是雕刻，跟我們的信仰有關。想藉這個機會，分享給大家。
米開朗基羅的創造亞當﹝The Creation of Adam﹞:

我們大概很容易就能從畫中體會到"創造"的感動。藉著米開朗基羅對天主創造的信仰，也會激發我們對生活的熱情。我們原本也分享了天主創造的特性，這原本是我們生活的本質之一。
而他在伯多祿教堂的聖殤﹝Pieta﹞也是美的讓人震動:

有的人覺得，這雕像裡面很少有哀傷的氣氛。聖母抱著耶穌的手，好像在對我們說:你們看，多美好的身體。生命是多麼值得被祝福的。這是米開朗基羅23歲的作品。如果要是什麼地方可能被批評的話，大概是這個雕像太完美了，完全看不到生命的悲憫跟痛苦。
後來米開朗基羅又做了聖殤﹝Pieta﹞:75歲雕刻的聖殤

死前(89歲)雕刻的聖殤

這兩個聖殤像，耶穌已經衰弱到聖母都扶不起他來。或許米開朗基羅23歲做的聖殤是完美的，就像23歲的他，覺得生命是充滿光明的，是沒有一點瑕疵的。
那時的他，也看不到生命沉重的一面。而在他生命的後期，少了年輕時的意氣風發，反而多了些對生命的同情。或許經過生活的歷練，看到了年輕時，看不到的殘缺。其實，殘缺可能也是我們生命的一部分。
從他的雕刻裡，我們看到了他對生命的態度的轉變。這其中，當然也有他信仰的態度的轉變。在我們的生命裡，可能也看到類似的信仰轉變。
有的時候，我們也可以從對聖畫的喜好裡，看到我們對不同信仰態度的喜好。有的人喜歡拉斐爾的聖母像 (聖母 耶穌與洗者若翰):

他的聖母永遠是紅咚咚的。耶穌跟若翰，像是小天使一樣，純潔無邪。他的畫充滿了感性與熱情，就像他的信仰跟生活一樣。畫裡面充滿了溫暖與甜美。有的人喜歡達文西 (最後晚餐):

他的畫就比較冷靜與理性，一直在追求協調，常常喜歡分析。如果我們是理性的信仰態度，也許我們也可以欣賞我們朋友感性的信仰。
學習看到生活或是信仰中熱情的一面。如果我們是感性的，也許我們也可以欣賞理性分析的信仰態度。早期的聖像 (icon) ，有些人覺得好像很死板:

有些人是說:那時候的人，刻意減少感官給人的感動。使信友，看畫祈禱的時候，不是只覺得聖母跟耶穌很美，而是能有信仰的感動。使信仰更純粹。
其實，當我們看畫的時候，如果受到感動，也許是聖神在跟我們說話。給我們一個機會看到我們的生活跟我們的信仰。

Fr. Koo concelebrate mass with Pope Benedict

It is a personal honor, as well as a community honor, that Fr. Koo will concelebrate the mass for the conclusion of the year for the priests with Pope Benedict. The mass and TV broadcast schedule is given as follows. Please pray for all the churches and priests in the broader Chinese Catholic community.

This is a correction to the schedule of the memorial mass of Bill and Ana Tsai's father/father-in-law, instead of 8:00 PM, it should be 8:00 AM in the morning. The corrected schedule is given as follows:
* Rosary session on Tuesday, April 20, 7:30 PM at the Alameda Funeral House in Saratoga;
* Memorial mass on Saturday, April 24, 8:00 AM at the Ascension Church in Saratoga;
